Thise images are big. Use Full screen for best rusults, push F11 button.

The terrain model is made with TurboCAD pro v11 and the Surface Modeling plugin.
I got the map from my local munisipal, and the aeroimage I caught from the Internet.
I use a Fujitsu Simens Laptop, 2.66 ghz and 512 mb ram.

How do I make this model?
I select the contourline, choose the SurfaceModeling and Create Surface. It took about 15 sec. to make the model.
Look at my movie in this tread and see the whole prosess.
A seven minute movie. Remember F11 for full screen.

You can see the parameters for the imagewrapping below.

How did I wrap the image around the model.

You find the map-file and the images-file in the Tread. at TurboCAD-forum.

I recomand you to read the tutorial, Wrapping a product box with images, on Donald Cheke's website.

My conclusion is: This is the right software to make such models.
I recommend Surface Modeling.

PS! Maybe some things in my tutorilal, (the imagemapping), can be wrong.

If somebody wishes to help or test, you can find my latest tcw-file here.

How do I wrap the image around the model

I select the model,
rightclick and go to the property.
>> 3D
>> Edit material
>> new category
>> new material.

Wrapped image
>> select the image in the yellow folder..

I used scale 1, aspect ratio 10 and softness 100.

Reflectance = Constant

Transpanrany = Non

Texture = non.

Then I go to arbitrary plane.
The images was 2456 x 1380 pixels

The aspect ratio = 1380 / 2456 x 100 % = 56
The center of the image should lay in the middle of the model. Therfore I must divide by 2.
2456 / 2 = 1228
1380 / 2 = 690
I put this values into Origin and press OK:

The model was still not good. The vector and image had different scale.
I found two likeone details, one in the imagedata and one in the vectordata.
I use measurement-tool to measure the distances between them.
One in the picture and one in the vector date.
( I work in wordPlan-view. )
I divided this two different measures with each other and I got the value 1,212.
Then I go back to Wrapped Image and put in 1,212 in the Scale.
Softness = 100 and Aspct rato = 10.
